The New Zealand Workforce Survey

The New Zealand Workforce Survey (NZWS; HRC 04/072) is the first survey in NZ to assess occupational exposures and health effects in a random sample of the working population. The participants for the NZWS were randomly selected from the 2003 and 2005 Electoral Rolls over a two year period (2004-2006). The survey collected information on lifetime work histories, a wide range of current occupational exposures and organisational factors, health conditions (respiratory and sleep), and lifestyle and personal factors. The final sample included 3003 workers from a wide range of occupations and industries The methodology and the study sample are described in detail in. Of those that participated, 48% were male and the average age was 44 years. There were approximately 9% Māori included in the NZWS study sample.
